Biography

Kevin Minnick

Kevin Minnick is an entrepreneur, product manager, software developer, learner, and achiever.

Minnick was a co-founder of Blacksburg, VA start-up fieldParty.com. Kevin, Bill Boebel, and Pat Matthews started the company during the dot-com boom in late 1999. Matthews and Minnick were randomly selected freshman year roommates at Virginia Tech four years earlier. The two men met Bill Boebel through friends at Tech and decided to start a dot-com business six months before their scheduled graduation. Four months later the dot-com bubble burst and the group needed to formulate a new business plan.

Pat and Bill worked endlessly for the next three years transforming the company into a business-class email hosting provider. Kevin, working for the company only in a part-time capacity, rejoined the group full-time in early 2003 as Vice President of Product Development. Kevin took the lead on all software development initiatives including building a Linux based email hosting platform. The company changed it's name to Webmail.us later that year.

Over the next four years Pat, Bill, and Kevin grew Webmail.us into the industry leader in business email hosting. In August of 2007 the founders led a hugely successful merger between Webmail.us and Rackspace Hosting. Kevin continued to work for Rackspace as the VP of Research and Development in the Email and Apps division. He currently led a team of over 100 people in the Blacksburg office before moving to Rackspace Headquarters in fall of 2010 as the VP of Product Management for their Cloud Hosting division.

Kevin grew up in nearby Pearisburg, VA and is a huge promoter of the Roanoke and New River Valley regions. Kevin frequently visits local campuses including Virginia Tech and Radford University to discuss employment opportunities in the area.

Kevin holds a Computer Science degree from Virginia Tech. Kevin's favorite topics revolve around Cloud Computing, product management, software development, start-ups, marketing, and the business of software. Kevin's hobbies include reading, golf, softball, and programming.

Kevin resides in San Antonio, Texas where he shares the joys and challenges of raising two children, Jordan and Andrew, with his wife Velvet.
